Houston and Boston are deadlocked in a 5-5 tie going into Saturday's
action. With no end to the fiercely fought battle in sight, it appears
that 2002's BLC World Series championship will end in dramatic fashion,
going into extra innings following today's likely indecisive game 7. The
only area of this year's finale that seems to remain reasonably close is
holds. So, in a last ditch effort to make up a 4-2 deficit, Saturday,
Houston is bringing up 22 year old right hander, Tim Spooneybarger. The
6'3", 190-pound reliever has pitched in almost 50 innings this
season, racking up 10 holds, and good for 31 strikeouts. Houston General
Manager Matt Rogers hopes that the second year hurler out of San Diego
will make the difference for his team. If all goes according to plan, the
addition of Spooneybarger will give his bullpen the jump it needs to make
up the two holds it requires in order to tie the category, giving Houston
the 5-4 win.
